What follows are the sometimes uninformed and always unprepared video recorded thoughts and rants of a jogger. These are all recorded whilst jogging using a hand held Flip Mino (SD). The strange rhythmical sound which always accompanies the recordings is from the water bottle held in the left hand whilst holding the Flip Mino in my right hand. Excuse factual inaccuracies. They have, in the main, not been edited out. The brain does funny things when otherwise pre-occupied with the steepness of a hill or tiredness in legs. It has been known for Holyrood to become Hollywood without even noticing. All stated opinions are personal and in no way reflect the thoughts of any other individual, group or institution. These videos are all also available on YouTube in my Jogging Video Blogging Playlist. The pertinent route map is provided in each diary entry. In addition all routes can be viewed on a separate linked page.

Corby Loch, Afghanistan, Politics and Recycling

Lunchtime run (14/07/2009). The date on the video is incorrect.

Rain had to some extent stopped play. It looked like another Gym day but at the last moment the sky cleared sufficiently to make me decide to risk a run outside. Fortunately the rain stayed away for 90 minutes which was just enough time for me to complete an 80 minute investigation of the local area in humid but really quite pleasant conditions.

The focus of the run turned out to be Corby Loch which is an area I had never previously investigated. The run took me through housing, hill, roads, rough tracks and one of the local dog walking moors and discussion touched on politics, war, Afghanistan, waste tips and recycling.

A most pleasurable and rewarding run!

Torture Chamber

Morning exercise in the Gym(12/07/2009).

I had made up my mind the day before that this was going to be a really long run outside but the weather worked against my plans.  By 08.15am I had concluded that unless I wanted to swim with the ducks that the Gym offered the best option.

35 minutes on the treadmill at a constant pace (which probably exceed my average road running speed) turned out to be an experience which I didn't appreciate on this occasion.  Earphones on and watching the BBC news and the Andrew Marr show didn't help the situation.  I was bored and I probably felt a little bit physically stressed by the constancy of the pace.  A few minutes warm-down on the treadmill, followed by a few minutes on a recumbant cycling machine, and then some stomach crunches on a gym ball whilst utising other torture devices such as two 4kg weights merely aided my conclusion that during the summer period I am not content with Gym-based activity.

Current Conflicts and Issues Abroad and at Home

Early morning run (11/07/2009).

I had made up my mind the day before that this was going to be a longer run. Where I would go was not decided. This is how it develped!

Getting up early on a Sunday and going out for a run when most other people are having a longer sleep in bed generally gives makes me quite a different view the day wihout even giving any consideration to the extent, distance or quality of the run. A long run which starts at 6.30am on a Sunday usually gives me such a positive start to the day that I am more likely to be able to cope with any of the events of the day.

Education Issues and a Future

Lunchtime run (09/07/2009).

It was a rather cold, windy and potentially wet looking environment into which I ventured. With long sleeves and another thickness of top on my torso to brave the elements I decided to take the country road route. My legs struggled to cope with the prospect of 30-45 minutes of exercise but the distractions of holding the video camera and talking soon helped me to forget about the miseries.

Exploring and Enjoying Country Roads and Paths

A fairly long morning run (08/07/2009) in which I explore country roads and paths and I chat about my immediate surroundings during the run.

Twitter and Flash Mobs

A lunchtime run (06/07/2009) in which I drift into Internet-related topics such as Twitter and the ways in which Internet-based services can and are used to set up Flash Mobs for social or political purposes

The Internet, Flash Mobs and Related Topics

A morning run (05/07/2009) in which I drift into Internet-related topics and the practical use of the Internet to facilitate communication, collaboration, co-operation and collective action. The way in which Internet-based services can and are used to set up Flash Mobs for social or political purposes is also discussed.

Vintage Loudspeakers

Morning run (04/07/2009) with geekish talk about vintage loudspeakers. Main topics of conversation are the LS3/5a, and KEF speakers including the Coda, the Concerto and related KEFKITs. The KEF drive units used within these speakers are highlighted including the T27, the B110 and the B139.

Pleasant Views of Countryside with more than a Twist of Politics

An enjoyable country run (26/06/2009) through leafy woods and country roads whilst heaping vitriol on our Political systems especially as it is currently implemented in Westminster. Special mention is made of Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Alex Salmond. The rudeness of the exchanges at Prime Minister's Question Time received specific mention along with the rudeness of well known television new readers.

Fashion

A short run (24/06/2009) provides an opportunity to have a long rant about fashion and the fashion industry. What's it for? Does it make any sense? Is it wasteful of time, resources, money? The conclusion of the jogger is that it is madness.

Exploring and Enjoying Country Roads

A morning run (21/06/2009) in which I just chat about my immediate surroundings during the run.

Feasibility of video blogging whilst jogging

Morning run (20/06/2009) with video of route and comments restricted to surroundings.

The objective was to see how possible it is to run, hold a small video camera and simultaneously talk sensibly about any topic which comes to mind.

This is part of a research investigation I am conducting to determine the relative merits of various online services in terms of impact and responsiveness of the public to the content over time, efficacy of the video medium for generic blogging, quality of presentation of various video formats, and ease of publication of video blogs on different sites. YouTube, Blogger and this site currently hold copies of each of the video blogs.
